Follow the procedures to identify and resolve several driver-related issues.
Ensure that the File System for you computer is listed as 32-bit.
1. Click the Start button, highlight Settings, and then select Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Click the Performance tab. Make a note of what is listed on the File System line.
4. Contact the manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive to obtain the latest version for a 32-bit Windows 95 driver if the File System or Virtual Memory lines list something other than 32-bit.
5. Install the 32-bit driver per the manufacturer's instructions.
Ensure that the CD-ROM driver is listed in the Device Manager and shows no conflicts with other devices.
1. Click the Start button, highlight Settings, and then select Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
4. Locate CD-ROM in the list of device types under Computer.
5. Click the plus sign (+) next to CD-ROM.
6. Contact the manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive for assistance if you see:
· no CD-ROM device listed
· a yellow circle with a black exclamation mark (!) next to the CD-ROM driver line.
Either may indicate that your CD-ROM driver is not fully a 32-bit Windows driver. It may also indicate a combination of 32-bit and 16-bit drivers on your system.
Adjust the Optimize Access pattern, if the File System for your computer lists as 32-bit and the CD-ROM driver shown in the Device Manager is correct.
1. Click the Start button, highlight Settings, and then select Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
3. Click the Performance tab.
4. Click the File System button and select the CD-ROM tab.
5. Move the slider to adjust the Supplemental Cache Size all the way to the left, towards Small.
6. Select No Read-Ahead in the "Optimize Access Pattern For" drop-down list.
7. Click OK, then click OK again to close the System Properties control panel.
8. Click Yes when prompted to restart Windows and then run Riven.
