Launching Assassin's Creed 2 on Windows 8.1

When launching Assassin's Creed 2, you may receive the following error message:

There was a problem starting your game. Please make sure you have no other games running that while you are using Ubisoft Connect. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the game.

The issue can occur if you are running Assassin's Creed 2 on a Windows 8.1 (x64) operating system. To fix this issue, launch the game from a desktop shortcut.

You can check the operating system on your PC by right-clicking the Start Menu icon and selecting System. 

To create a desktop shortcut:
•  Open Ubisoft Connect.
•  Select the Games tab.
•  Locate the Assassin's Creed 2 tile.
•  Right-click over the tile.
•  Select Create desktop shortcut from the menu.

If your game is still failing to launch from the desktop shortcut, please uninstall and reinstall the game.
