Authentication Error Between Steam and Ubisoft Connect

Players often report an authentication error that occurs between the Steam client and Ubisoft Connect when trying to launch a game. The error message traditionally states: "There was a problem authenticating ownership of this product." When it appears, you are unable to bypass it to continue forward with your game. 

This issue generally occurs when you are using one Steam account to launch the game, but that Steam account has been linked to multiple Ubisoft accounts. If your Steam account has previously been linked to a Ubisoft account, it's possible that your game was activated on the other account so the communication between the two accounts is being interrupted. 

To fix this issue:
  1. In Ubisoft Connect, select your account username in the top-right corner. 
  2. Select Log out.
  3. Enter the login credentials for any other Ubisoft accounts you may have. 
  4. Once successfully logged in, try launching your game again through Steam.
If you are able to log in to the Ubisoft account the game was tied to, you should now be able to run the game.
