Basic PC Troubleshooting

I experience technical difficulties with my game when I try to start the game or while I am playing. What can I do to fix this?

If you encounter issues when trying to run your game on PC, there are a few things you can try.

The type of troubleshooting would depend on whether your issue is software or hardware related or caused by something else. Due to the multitude of possible issues we will summarise a few basic or general steps in this FAQ that usually help with most issues players encounter. If your problem is caused by your hardware or by a specific software, we recommend that you contact the relevant manufacturer directly.

Check if your system meets the specifications required for the game
The easiest way to do this is to search our support site for the game's system requirements and to compare them to your system's specifications. If your system does not meet the requirements, this will most likely be the cause for any performance issues, black screens or crashes on launch that you may be experiencing.

Try to run the game with administrator rights
To find out how to do that, check our dedicated FAQ.

Update your video card drivers
If your issue is related to graphics performance, try updating your video card drivers. You can download the newest driver from the manufacturer's website:
Once your download is over, please perform a clean installation of your drivers:

Verify your game files
It is possible that the installation of your game is faulty. To fix this, please verify your game files:

Disable background applications
To find out if a software conflict is causing issues with your game, try to disable your background applications.

Make sure your operating system is up to date
Check for Windows updates and install any updates that are pending. You can find out all details in this official Microsoft article

Update Uplay PC
To do that, uninstall Uplay and download the newest version of Uplay from the official website.

Reinstall supporting software
Most games rely on supporting software provided by the operating system, such as the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package. Try reinstalling this software to make sure it functions correctly. To find out how to do that, have a look at our dedicated article.

If you still encounter issues after trying these steps, please feel free to contact us! Describe the issue you are experiencing in as much detail as possible. It will also help our investigation if you attach a DxDiag and an MSinfo to your ticket.
