Cannot Get Riven DVD to Run

The copy of Riven that you received can sometimes have issues with XP. This can be solved 100% of the time by changing the Riven executable to run in compatibility mode. To set compatibility mode do the following: 1. Navigate to the main game directory (where the game was installed). 2. Find the main game executable file (ending in .exe if you have extentions turned on) and right click on it. 3. Choose "Properties" and then click on "Compatibility". Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box, then select Windows 98/ME and click Apply. 4. Run Riven

Unable to Save Games

In older versions of the game, there is an asterisk (*) in front of the file name. If you don't replace the asterisk with an actual name, the game will not save. In the field where *.rvn is listed, replace the asterisk with any name you choose (i.e. Save1). Once you give the file a name, it should save.

Screen Distortion When Changing Scenes

This error has been reported on systems that are not using the most current video driver. We have also seen this issue occasionally on faster CD-ROM drives. First contact your video card manufacturer to ensure that you have the most current driver available for your Video Card. We also recommend that you change the Read Ahead and Cache settings for your CD-ROM drive. To do this: 1. From the desktop, click on the Start button, highlight Settings, then click on Control Panel. 2. From within the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. 3. Click the tab labeled Performance. 4. Click the File System Button. 5. Click the tab labled CD-Rom. 6. Slide the Supplemental Cache Size bar all the way to the left (Small). 7. Change the Optimize Access Pattern section to No Read Ahead. 8. Click on Ok. 9. Click on Close and answer Yes to restart the computer. 10. The issue should now be resolved.

Screen Is Too Dark

In order to create the mysterious atmosphere of Riven, the artist intentionally darkened some of the scenes. The darkened scenes may obscure details that you need to see when playing the game. This issue is a known issue on some operating systems. One or more options may resolve the issue. Attempt these options, not necessarily in order, to resolve the issue. · Adjust the contrast and brightness knobs on the outside of your monitor to the highest settings. This may help you to see the more important details. · Uninstall and then reinstall Riven. Go through the Setup Option, designed to assist you with adjusting your monitor's brightness and contrast. · Contact the manufacturer of your video card to update its driver to the latest version.
