Setting up a static IP address for PS4

The local IP address of your PS4 could be set up in two ways: it can be static or dynamic.

A dynamic IP address changes each time you restart your console or router. If you made settings that rely on the IP address to stay the same (for example port forwarding), they would no longer work because the IP address has changed.

static IP does not change. This is why it is often recommended to set up a static IP address in conjunction with other connectivity troubleshooting steps.

Bear in mind that you only need to change your local IP. Your public IP can stay untouched.

Setting up a static IP

Before you can start to set up a static IP, you will need some information about your console's current network setup. This is how you find the information:

- Start on the Home Screen.
- Navigate to Settings > Network > View Connection Status.

Here you will find a list of network details. Please write down all of the numbers you see here. You will need them later.

Then, go back one step to the Network screen and select Set Up Internet Connection.

- On the following screen, select Wifi or Lan, depending on what connection type you are using.
- On the next screen, choose Custom.
- On the IP Address Settings screen, select Manual.

On the next screen you will see a list of details, starting with IP Address. Please go through each of the items and enter the details that you wrote down earlier. When you are done, select Next.

You will be prompted to make some additional settings. Please choose the following options:

- MTU: automatic
- Proxy Server: Do Not Use

You can now test your internet connection. Your PS4 should now have a static IP.

For more information, please check the PS4 manual. If you need further assistance setting up a static IP, we recommend that you contact PlayStation Support directly.
